Concert For The Kimberley

What a fantastic Sunday!

This morning we went down to Metthams pool for a quick swim, dan had his usual surf. Olivia wasnt keen on going for a swim today. It was to cold for her I think, so Dan brought her home for a sleep while I caught up on some sun soaking! We had a fun afternoon planned so she needed her rest!

I’m glad she did because when we arrived in Fremantle, the free ‘Concert for the Kimberley’ was in full swing! 20,000 people had shown up in support and to hear, Missy Higgins and John Butler Trio, among others!

We got a great spot on the grass not far back from the stage! I wasnt sure if Olivia would be kept amused for us to stay the whole afternoon. How wrong could I be?! She Loved it! and she kept everyone around us very amused at her dance skills! She was shaking her butt and attempting to break dance. I can’t tell you how proud I was and delighted to see her enjoying herself so much.

After the concert was over, Olivia asked me “Mummy…When is my next concert? I’m a very good dancer!”. Watch this space!

Funky Hair Style’s and Fun!!

IMG_6752IMG_6754IMG_6753IMG_6755

Olivia was quite excited when daddy suddenly announced, he fancied being a hairdresser for the evening!

In cleaning out Olivia’s drawers of old clothes earlier, (I’m ashamed to say that some actually still had labels on them!), I found a little oriental red dress. I have no idea who bought it for, but the minute Olivia set eyes on it, she wanted to put it on.

Dan told her that if she was going to wear a special dress like that, she would have to get her hair done to complete the style! A can of hair spray later, several hair bobble’s and a balloon, she was kissing herself in the mirror and parading around the house like a model!

Funny Faces With Tom Jones (aka Grandad Jones)

IMG_6064 IMG_6069  IMG_6086 IMG_6074

We have been very lucky to have my dad, Olivia’s grandad, here over the Christmas break, all the way from Scotland. As you can see here from these pictures, living apart doesn’t make the bond any less!

As he arrived just after Christmas day, Olivia was very excited to show Grandad Jones all her new toys from Santa. She really had Grandad wrapped round her finger! We took these pictures one day in Fremantle, when we took Grandad Jones to see the markets. As it was so hot, we had a quick break in the Norfolk Hotel for drinks and chips. I don’t know who wins the prize for funniest faces here?!

Olivia goes to Melbourne

Wow! What a crazy few weeks. We have been so busy!! It’s taken me a while to get this on here, as we have had some technical issues!!

Last week we headed off to Melbourne for a family wedding! Olivia loved having mummy and daddy all to herself for the week. So, while daddy was off doing all his ‘best man duties’, Olivia and I took in our surroundings.

We decided to take advantage of all the christmas attractions they have there. I have to say that I felt a lot more ‘Christmassy‘ there for some reason. I think they have more going on.

We headed to Swanston Street to visit Santa in Christmas square! The whole square had been converted with a beautiful christmas tree, Santa’s grotto and Santa’s Elf’s! Olivia enjoyed finding the reindeer’s and collecting her stamps in the maze! After she was finished, she was given a transfer sticker to say ‘well done’ for finding all the reindeer.

The next day, we headed to Bourke Street and straight to the window display at Myer. Every year Myer picks a story book theme, and bring it to life! This year they chose Rob Scotton’s, Russell’s Christmas Magic. The queues were quite long but worth the wait. Olivia loved hearing the story and yes….we bought the book :-) !

Just as we were leaving, someone asked us if we had been to see Santa upstairs? Olivia wasnt sure if she would like to see Santa, but I managed to persuade her!We took the train to Santa Land and knocked on Santa’s door. When Santa told us to come in, Olivia got a bit scared. The only way we could get a picture is if I sat beside Santa! As you can see from Olivia’s face, she is not so sure! She loved the train ride but told me after that she didn’t like Santa! I’m sure she will change her mind when he leaves her present’s.

In our last effort to fit in all things christmas, we went to the Crown Casino. The have a lovely festive scene set out each year. It’s always nice for kids to see. This year they had christmas baubles on the floor and on the ceiling. Inside the ones on the floor was nativity scenes, that you could see by looking with binoculars. Also, every 15 minutes or so the ones on the ceiling had the 12 days of christmas song projected on them!

Olivia couldn’t wait to go back to daycare when she got home, to tell everyone about her trip!

A little bit of fairy dust

On Saturday afternoon, Olivia was invited to a fairy themed party at Sticky Beaks Cafe in Kings Park.

Arriving at the party, Olivia soon got into ‘fairy mode’ with all the other little girls! There was fairy bread, shortbread star’s with sprinkles, fairy cake to eat and plenty of fun to be had! All the kids ran back and forward to the playground and played ‘catch the bubbles’ with the bubble wand, taking turns. When it came time for Olivia’s little friend to open her present’s, Olivia sat patiently on my knee until it was her turn to give her gift. She was so pleased when Lily liked her present, as she had picked it out specially herself.

We stayed at the party right until the end as the girls were having so much fun, it seemed mean to break up the fun! I’m sure everyone would agree, she makes quite a cute fairy!

On sunday we a bit more of a chill out day! We went shopping after lunch for some new outdoor furniture and then ice-cream on the way home. Olivia brought her ‘shopper bag’ along with her because “it matches my dress mummy”….Oh Dear, I think I have created a monster!!

A weekend at the shops

Last weekend we decide to hit the shops! Olivia needed some new clothes for summer coming. She’s growing out of things so fast! We headed straight for Cotton on Kids and picked up some cool tee’s, sandals, all in one’s and a denim skirt. I think Olivia was more interested in the necklaces, bracelets and headbands though!

Lazy sailing afternoon

This weekend we stumbled upon a new place for breakie! Its called ‘The Secret Garden’ in South Perth. We discovered just how perfectly named it was, when we went through the back and outside! It really is a quaint little place, with overgrown trees and flowers, a little bridge, a pond with fish and a wishing well. Olivia put some money in the well and made her wish (she wished for a marshmallow). The food was yummy too! Olivia and Dan shared 2 milkshakes since they couldn’t decide out of banana and strawberry.

In the afternoon, we took the our little boat out on the river at Lilac hill, Guilford. Olivia had great fun pointing out all the ducks in the water, and helping me pour the drinks. We stopped off at a little spot to have a BBQ with some friends, and made hot dogs. Olivia helped chop the onions, and put out the plates while the boys cooked.

We timed our journey perfectly! By the time we got back on dry land, the mosquitos were beginning to bite! When the boys finished packing up the trailer it was dark too, and Olivia was already asleep in the back seat of the car!
